Poker basics is not just one set of ideas.  There are several variants of poker and for each variant, the poker basics are likely to vary in a bit for each variant.  The showdown occurs after the completion of the betting round.  In almost all variants of poker, the high rank card wins the game.  If there are more than one set of high rank cards, a comparison between the high ranking cards is done, where the better ranking card hits the winning like Ace beats king and king beats queen and so on.In cases of lowball or high-lo games, the low ranking hand or the worst possible hand wins the show and in the high low games the pot is split between the high hand the low hand.  In cases of two qualifying low hands, the pot is quartered between the low hands and the other half goes to the high hand.

In low ball games the point of whether the Ace to five or deuce to seven wins should be clarified based on game criterion. Some people confuse between whether they are playing Ace to five or deuce to seven in low ball games, it better to clarify any doubts in the beginning of the game rather than getting to question such in the middle of the game.
